Reflections of the Rain: An Introduction

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says about His Qur'an:

Contemplation, or otherwise known as tadabbur, is an often and easily neglected aspect of studying the Qur'an.

In Reflections of the Rain, we aim to revive the 'ibadah or act of worship of tadabbur wa 'amal- contemplating and acting upon the ayaat of the Qur'an- by translating portions of content from an Arabic app called "Al-Qur'an Al-Kareem Tadabbur Wa 'Amal" [القرآن الكريم تدبر وعمل] from Arabic to English.

Our intention is to share the benefits and blessings we have gained through this app by making it more accessible to non-Arabic speakers as we have not yet found the app's content available in other languages, specifically English.

(Personally, we have recommended this app to many of our family and friends, and they found the language barrier a hindrance.)

Islam is not a religion for the Arabs, rather Allah chose to reveal His Perfect Speech in Arabic. This should only encourage non-Arab Muslims to learn and study the beautiful language of the Qur'an, so that we may appreciate its truer beauty and meaning. It should be a point of motivation for our ijtihad- personal striving- that drives us forward on the path of seeking knowledge; not a point of complaint coming from a sense of inferiority.

A few disclaimers to make:

  • We are not affiliated with the makers of the app, and have taken this task upon ourselves as our own passion project.

  • We are not planning to translate the entire app, rather we will translate bits and pieces, bi'ithnillah.

  • We do not claim credit for any of the content we translate from this app, nor do we benefit at all in worldly terms for doing this.

  • We pray and hope that we, and the makers of the app, will be rewarded many times more in the Akhirah; Ameen.

Why Reflections of the "Rain"?

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala- in many ayaat of the Qur'an- mentions how He sends the rain from the sky, reviving the earth after its death and bringing from it life.

Likewise, the Qur'an revives our hearts, and brings it back to life. It is our hope that tadabbur wa 'amal will help us to gain a closer relationship with the Qur'an, so that it becomes our closest companion and occupies our minds and hearts during our every waking moment; and that it brings life to our hearts.

We end with this dua'a:

اللهم اجعل القران ربيع قلوبنا ونور صدورنا وجلاء أحزاننا اللهم اجعل القرآن حجة لنا ولا تجعله حجة علينا آمين
O Allah, make the Qur'an the spring of our hearts, and the light of our chests, and the dispeller of our sadness and grief, O Allah make the Qur'an a proof for us, and not against us, Ameen.
